ABOUT PRETTY

On July 11, 2023, I came downstairs to find I’d missed 14 calls from a Pittsboro police officer. When I finally called back, they said, “We need you to come down to the station.”

My first thought was, “What did I do?” They laughed and said, “No, Candace—we need you to come get a puppy.” I said, “Do I look like animal control?” They answered, “It’s a pit bull puppy.”

And just like that, I was on my way. Curlers still in my hair, pajama bottoms and all. What they handed me was a tiny, starving, fur-colored skeleton. After a lot of love and rehabilitation, she became Pretty—a real, true Pittsboro Pittie.

People ask me, “Why did you name her Pretty? That’s an adjective, not a name.” And I just say,“Look at her—she’s so beautiful. I had to call her Pretty.”

Now she’s the prettiest puppy in the world, living her best life with her big brother Buddy and her sister Lucy.

VISION &
PRIORITIES

I’m running for Town Commissioner because I believe in Pittsboro—our people, our character, and our small-town spirit.

Our community is growing, and with that growth comes the chance to make smart choices: strengthening infrastructure, improving stormwater systems, supporting local businesses, building more affordable housing, and guiding development in ways that protect the environment and the heart of our town.

I’m not a politician, I’m your neighbor. I care. I listen. I show up.

As commissioner, I’ll bring a practical, people-first approach to keep Pittsboro affordable, welcoming, and vibrant—while protecting the charm, natural resources, and sense of home that make our town so special.

Smart, Balanced Growth

To achieve smart, balanced growth, we must look ahead to Pittsboro’s future with a controlled plan while preserving what makes our town feel like home. By prioritizing building up, not out, we can protect our green spaces and maintain the unique charm that defines our community.

Affordable Workforce Housing

To make Pittsboro a place where people can both live and work, we need to ensure new developments deliver on the promise of more accessible housing for everyone.

Environment & Climate Action

Protecting our environment is central to our identity. By valuing our tree canopy, streams, and pollinators, and creating a practical Climate Action Plan, we can ensure Pittsboro grows well without sacrificing its natural treasures.

and Pretty

I moved to Pittsboro in 2015 after a serious injury forced me to reinvent myself, and like every reinvention in my life, I came back stronger; thriving, building new skills, and finding ways to serve others. My family and I have made Pittsboro our home . We are three generations strong, with my parents, my 98-year-old grandmother, my brother’s family, and me,  all here together. This is where our roots are, and it’s why I care so deeply about the future of this town.

Inspired by Mr. Rogers’ call to “look for the helpers,” I’ve spent more than 30 years as a community organizer, volunteer, and animal rescuer and advocate. I’ve worked with the unhoused, supported victims of abuse, helped resettle Bosnian refugees, organized food and toy drives, and found creative ways to keep neighbors connected during COVID as HOA President of Chatham Forest.

Professionally, I bring decades of experience in construction, real estate, publishing, healthcare, and community leadership. I’ve managed residential and commercial projects with real estate licenses in three states, worked in publishing on branding and partnerships, and since 2019, I’ve managed chiropractic clinics, with four locations across Chatham and Wake Counties. Here in Pittsboro, I’ve rolled up my sleeves to get results, like leading a long-overdue stormwater project that repaired decades of neglect in my neighborhood.

I’m running for Town Commissioner because I love this town and want to help guide its growth in a way that protects its people, its character, and its small-town spirit. Pittsboro is growing quickly, and with that growth comes opportunity — to strengthen our infrastructure, expand stormwater and environmental protections, support vibrant local businesses, increase affordable housing, and invest in the public services that keep our town safe and connected.

I’m not a politician — I’m a problem-solver. I care. I listen. I show up. And I’ll bring that same hands-on, people-first approach to Town Hall to keep Pittsboro affordable, livable, and true to what makes it special; its character, creativity and its small town soul.
